about the venue tax
The venue tax would add 2% to the City of Beaumont’s current Hotel Occupancy Tax. This tax would be paid only by visitors staying in hotels, motels, or short-term rentals in Beaumont — not by residents.
Citizens can vote on the proposed venue tax on the November 2025 ballot.
-
The Venue Tax is a 2% increase to Beaumont’s existing Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT). Visitors would pay this tax when staying in local hotels, motels, or short-term rentals. Residents would not pay this tax.
-
Revenue from the Venue Tax would help:
Construct a new convention center in downtown Beaumont.
Maintain and operate the facility long-term.
Support the hotel-and-convention-center project.
-
The proposed convention center would be seamlessly integrated with the new Riverfront Hotel.
Beaumont has not built a new convention facility in decades.
This is an opportunity to grow the economy without raising taxes on residents.
-
When a hotel guest stays in Beaumont, they currently pay a 15% HOT tax.
Current HOT (15%)
6% — State of Texas
2% — Jefferson County
7% — City of Beaumont
If approved, HOT would increase to 17% for visitors:
6% — State of Texas
2% — Jefferson County
7% — City of Beaumont (existing)
2% — City of Beaumont Venue Tax (proposed)
-
This proposal will be on the November 2025 ballot.
